The Testimony

The story behind the song

"Suddenly" begins in the hallway — that in-between place where you're standing between a promise and a prayer, holding on when you're weary, still believing through the silence. It's a song about the moment everything you carried finally breaks — not slowly, not gradually, but suddenly.

Soulé Soul wrote it as a testimony, not a performance: increase, healing, grace, provision — every line names something real that changed in a moment. The arrangement follows the words: it opens as a whispered prayer over soft keys, builds through gospel piano and organ, and lands as a full-tilt wall of praise, cut live with a full choir answering her line for line.

"And it may not come the way I planned… but one word from Heaven can turn it all around today."

It's the first testimony from her debut album Still Becoming — an album about the space between who you were and who you're called to be.

Intro — spoken over soft keys

Okay, God…
I don't know when You're gonna do it,
I don't know how You're gonna move,
But I know You can change everything
In a moment.
Suddenly…

Verse 1

I've been standing in the hallway
Between a promise and a prayer
Holding on when I was weary
Still believing You were there
There were nights I couldn't see it
Days I questioned what I knew
But the silence wasn't empty
You were working something through
I thought I needed all the answers
You just needed me to trust
'Cause what looked like it was over
Was only waiting on Your touch

Pre-Chorus

And it may not come the way I planned
It may not happen when I say
But one word from Heaven
Can turn it all around today

Chorus

Suddenly there's increase
Suddenly there's more than enough
Suddenly the doors swing open
And I'm standing in the overflow of love
Suddenly there is healing
Suddenly the pain is gone
Suddenly there's grace to carry
Everything I thought I couldn't carry on
Suddenly there's wealth
Suddenly stability
Suddenly the life I prayed for
Is standing right in front of me
And I don't need to understand it
I just know what God can do
Everything can change
Suddenly

Verse 2

I've seen trouble lose its power
I've seen mountains learn to move
I've seen peace walk in a room
Where fear had made itself at home
I've seen provision from the places
I would never think to look
Seen a chapter turn to favor
When I thought You closed the book
No more begging for tomorrow
No more living scared and small
If You are still the God of heaven
Then You are still the God of all

Pre-Chorus

So I'm lifting up my expectation
I'm making room for something new
You don't need a warning
Before You do what only You can do

Chorus

Suddenly there's increase
Suddenly there's more than enough
Suddenly the doors swing open
And I'm standing in the overflow of love
Suddenly there is healing
Suddenly the pain is gone
Suddenly there's grace to carry
Everything I thought I couldn't carry on
Suddenly there's wealth
Suddenly stability
Suddenly the life I prayed for
Is standing right in front of me
And I don't need to understand it
I just know what God can do
Everything can change
Suddenly

Post-Chorus — choir call and response

Suddenly (Suddenly)
In a moment (In a moment)
God can do it (Yes, He can)
Turn it around (Turn it around)
Suddenly
There is favor
Suddenly
There is peace
Suddenly
Every chain breaks
And I can breathe

Bridge

One day you're crying
Next day you're dancing
One day you're waiting
Next day it happens
One day it's empty
Next day it's plenty
One day you're wondering
Then suddenly
One call
One door
One touch
One word
One prayer
One move
That's all
It takes

Bridge — lead vocal with choir answers

Suddenly my house has peace (Suddenly)
Suddenly my children are free (Suddenly)
Suddenly my body is healed (Suddenly)
Suddenly the promise is real (Suddenly)
Suddenly the money is there (More than enough)
Suddenly I'm breathing fresh air (I can breathe)
Suddenly my mind is at rest (Perfect peace)
Suddenly I know I'm blessed
No more lack
No more fear
No more wondering
How I'm getting through this year
Grace came in
Mercy spoke
Everything that had me bound
Finally broke

Breakdown — raw, almost spoken

Okay, God…
Suddenly there's increase.
Suddenly there's abundance.
Suddenly You give me grace.
Suddenly there's wealth.
Suddenly there's stability.
Suddenly sickness is gone.
Suddenly my family is whole.
Suddenly my mind has peace.
Suddenly…
Everything is okay.
Not because everything happened
The way I thought it would…
But because You walked in.

Final Chorus — full choir, key change

Suddenly there's increase
Suddenly there's more than enough
Suddenly the doors swing open
And I'm standing in the overflow of love
Suddenly there is healing
Suddenly the pain is gone
Suddenly there's grace to carry
Everything I thought I couldn't carry on
Suddenly there's wealth
Suddenly stability
Suddenly the life I prayed for
Is standing right in front of me
And I don't need to understand it
I just know what God can do
Everything can change
Everything can change
Everything can change
Suddenly

Outro — vamp

Suddenly…
Suddenly…
He turned it around suddenly
I was crying
Now I'm smiling
I was empty
Now I'm filled
I was worried
Now I'm worshiping
Look what the Lord has done
Suddenly
Suddenly
Suddenly
Everything is okay
Suddenly.
